Summer PULSE
Last week’s swell event was a DEFINITE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SUMMER. The forecast was initially hard to pin down with heavy rain warnings and onshore winds on the menu. But the Gisborne region was SPARED THE WORST OF IT with the winds swinging offshore earlier than predicted. What followed were three straight days ranging from truly epic to very fun, and everything in between.

Ben Drummond was hunting these down all day long.
The first day was probably the pick for wave shape, accompanied by gale-force offshores early on. You don’t often see the carpark AS FULL AS IT WAS. Great to see everyone making the most of the pristine conditions.

Day two dawned with a similar swell size that had shifted direction slightly. CONDITIONS WERE Still highly favourable with lots of energy in the water and some absolute gems to be found.
A perfect left out front and all eyes down the beach instead. That’s how good it was.

Maz Quinn had this zone to himself for a couple of hours.
I’d been wanting to shoot surf with the drone for a while and spent a couple of hours trying to nail a classic angle from the air. My hit rate wasn’t super high and lessons were learned - but I walked away with a handful of unique images.
Pines delivers when it matters.
